This page describes the additional components (My Guide & Tools) available with the PREMIUM price plan for College Site Access. See STANDARD ACCESS for the basic components also available as part of the PREMIUM price plan.

My Guide (Premium price plan only)

  • EDITORS NOTE: On July 15 2009 we launched the "My Guide" set of features and discontinued the "My School" features.
  • My Learning Path is the starting point for all users when they first access The BIG Guide Online. User are asked to choose one or more of 11 goals (example, Volunteering Abroad, Studying Abroad, International Student studying in the US/Canada), and My Learning Path will provide a list of essential readings of Quick Guides, Chapters, Resources, Organization Profiles and Quizzes. Users can track their progress by marking each reading with the My Choice and Completed check-marked columns.  NEW July 20, 2009
  • My Bookmarks: This is list of the personal bookmarked items, -a list of the user's favorite parts of The BIG Guide.
  • My Notes: This is a list of all of the user's personal notes (My Notes) available for almost every part of The BIG Guide.
  • My Inventory of International Skills & My Scorecard: (HOT FEATURE) This unique set of quizzes allow users to track their international skills and raise their skill level during each year in college. These eight insightful quizzes are designed as learning quizzes to help students measure their preparedness in three areas: My International Personality, My International Experience and My International I.Q. Students have a dashboard (My Scorecard) that measures their international credentials with a Bronze, Silver or Gold rating. Quiz answers are permanently saved allowing students to raise their score as they build international experience during their years at school. The Quiz Tips feature provides expert advice for each quiz question and the My Notes feature allows students to track their skills and objectives inside each quiz.
  • My School: These are links to your college’s international services, programs and documents. Organize this section any way you wish. Consider listing: career services, study abroad services, international student services, internationally focused courses at your school, student international clubs or student go-abroad stories.
  • My School Network: This is a list of all students from your school who have registered for The BIG Guide Online. This service allows students at your school to get in touch with fellow internationalists on campus. Note that students e-mail addresses remains hidden and private when being contacted by others. Students also have the option of posting a short profile of their international interest and experience. This is a great way to strengthen the international community at your school.  NEW EXPANDED FEATURES, July 20, 2009
  • My Profile: Users may edit their personal profile and account information, including changing their password.

Tools (Premium price plan only)

  • Quick Guides: These are one-page summaries of the most popular topics (28+ in English and 18 in French, with more on the way). Easy to read and print. Valuable to students and those advising students. Many Quick Guides have schematic diagrams that allow students to understand the bigger picture of our proposed strategies and job search models.  Premium Access colleges have full reproduction rights to these pdf files for distribution during student advising sessions, career workshops, study abroad fairs and other events on campus. Student advisors in the career office as well as those in the study abroad and international student offices are empowered with this easy to access information.
  • Ask the Expert: Users can send their questions to author Jean-Marc Hachey who publishes two answers per week and organizes an easy to use archive for user review. NEW July 20, 2009
  • Newsletter "My Global Career Skills": These timely bits of information will be sent weekly to students, helping them stay motivated and focused throughout their years in college as they build international credentials with easy to implement tips from The BIG Guide. Users can read the archive and manage their subscription for this newsletter.  NEW July 20, 2009
  • Quick Tip Videos: Videos by author Jean-Marc Hachey, published regularly to inspire students on some of the most sought after subject headings for building global career skills.
  • Go Abroad Videos: Watch videos about go abroad programs that capture The BIG Guide philosophy.
  • The World Online: Watch this eclectic mix of world videos that will inspire, amuse or make you take action.  NEW July 20, 2009

Other Services (Premium price plan only)

  • Alumni Registrations: School administrators can provide access to The BIG Guide Online to individual alumni (even when alumni do not have a school e-mail address).
  • School Branding: Your school logo appears in the top right hand corner of all The BIG Guide Online pages. Your logo also appears during the user registration process.
  • Usage Statistics: School administrators, career counselors, study abroad advisors, international student advisors all appreciate "live" usage statistics, user demographics, user lists, as well as aggregate International IQ ranking.
