How many seminars does Hachey present when visiting a campus?
Hachey can present up to three seminars on the same day; two are geared to students, the other to student advisors and faculty.
The main seminar is repeated twice: “GLOBAL CAREER SKILLS – Advice For Anyone Considering Going Abroad To Study, Volunteer, Intern, Teach, Travel Or Work!” Mr. Hachey also often presents a different seminar for the second student presentation: “THE INTERNATIONAL JOB SEARCH – Selling Your Skills and Writing International Resumes.”
Students can attend both seminars or they can attend either the first or second. These seminars are designed to stand alone. Students benefit from the extensive handouts and also from the large discount he offers on his book (see below for details). Mr. Hachey often draws a crowd of 200-350 students at a mid-sized school.

Jean-Marc Hachey will expand on his previous seminar with detailed information on international resumes and job hunting strategies. This seminar is of particular interest to graduate students and fourth-year students, students with international experience, as well as international students. Learn the step-by-step strategies for finding work globally. Discover how to target your job search and sell your international skills. Review in detail elements of the international resume. This 1.5 hour seminar includes a 15-minute question and answer period.
Is there a seminar for faculty and staff?
Yes – a one-hour seminar is generally presented at 8:30 a.m. or during a formal lunch presentation. This is a very popular session for international program managers as well as student advisors, including career counselors, study abroad advisors and international student advisors. Senior managers and faculty teaching international courses often attend as well. You may also invite colleagues from neighboring institutions. Busy faculty and college staff prefer to attend this seminar rather than the main 1.5-hour presentations which are directed to students.
HELPING STUDENTS UNDERSTAND INTERNATIONAL CAREERS
A Seminar for Career Counselors, Study Abroad Advisors and FacultyLearn about international careers from best-selling author Jean-Marc Hachey and his book The BIG Guide to Living and Working Overseas. This one-hour presentation discusses how to guide students interested in building an international career, how to acquire international experience and the difference between the international job search and a domestic job search. Hachey also puts forth innovative ideas on how various departments on campus can work together to help students build international career and global citizenship credentials.
What kind of flexibility is available for seminar timing?
Hachey is able to present up to three seminars for a maximum of four hours. Schools may decide to shorten the student seminars from 1.5 hours to 1 or 1.25 hours to better align them with student class schedules. Schools also have the choice of running the same seminar twice (Seminar # 1), or two separate seminars (Seminar # 1 and #2). Schools may also choose a combination seminar (combining Seminar #1 and #2).
What is the speaking fee? (New discounted fees for 2009)
Campuses often build an internal coalition of two or three departments that contribute towards the fee. These could include career services, the study abroad office, international students’ office, internationally specialized departments (especially engineering and business schools), as well as student organizations. Fees can be reduced when booking on adjacent days in the same region. Our sales staff works with schools in your region to book on adjacent days and we appreciate your referrals. Exact fees can vary. Most events in the US are $3,300 plus travel. If your school already subscribes to "College Site Access to The BIG Guide Online" the USA fee is $2,700 plus travel. Canadian and European prices vary with travel distance. Write to us for exact fees. What does the seminar fee include?
It includes up to three presentations (4 hours of speaking), handouts (including 23 pages of the popular Quick Guides), and books for student advisors, sale of books and other services.
Are there supplemental services available with Hachey’s visit?
If your school has not already purchased College Site Access to The BIG Guide Online, you can purchase 24-month subscriptions to The BIG Guide Online for everyone who attends Hachey’s seminar. The BIG Guide Online is almost the same as the book edition of The BIG Guide to Living and Working Overseas, but with the addition of online Tools and features. Seminar participants will receive an “Access Code + Instructions” card (the size of a business card). The cost for this service is $800. (The value of one 24-month subscription to The BIG Guide Online is $29.95; The BIG Guide book retails for $59.95).
